Organizing an ACM conference involves many decisions, processes, and deadlines. The resources below provide guidance for organizers of SIGWEB-sponsored and co-sponsored conferences, from initial planning and budgeting to creating an inclusive and engaging conference experience.
We also encourage organizers to consult their conference’s Steering Committee and previous organizing teams. Their experience can provide valuable conference-specific guidance that complements the resources below.
ACM Conference Planning Guide
The ACM Conference Planning Guide is the primary resource for organizing an ACM-sponsored or co-sponsored conference. It provides guidance on the major stages of conference planning, ACM policies and procedures, finances, contracts, publications, registration, and other organizational responsibilities.
Organizers should familiarize themselves with the ACM requirements early in the planning process. In particular, financial arrangements, including the use of ACM banking services and applicable VAT requirements, should be addressed well in advance.
Additional Guidance for Conference Organizers
The SIGCHI Conferences Handbook provides a comprehensive overview of conference organization, including suggested timelines, key tasks, planning processes, and useful tools and services. While developed specifically for SIGCHI conferences, much of the general guidance can also be useful to SIGWEB conference organizers.

SIGWEB Support for Conferences
SIGWEB provides financial support to help its conferences broaden participation and develop activities that benefit their communities.
Fair Access Grant
SIGWEB provides a Fair Access Grant of $10,000 to each eligible core and co-sponsored conference. The program is intended to reduce financial barriers to conference participation, particularly for students and early-career researchers from economically developing countries.
In-Conference Event Grants
SIGWEB also provides funding of up to $5,000 per conference for activities organized in conjunction with SIGWEB-sponsored conferences. Supported activities may include summer schools, exhibitions, technology-policy activities, and other special gatherings that enrich the conference experience and foster community engagement.
