ACM SIGWEB to Sponsor and Organize Leading International Web Conference Series
ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the International World Wide Web Conference Committee (IW3C2) has announced an agreement to transfer full legal and financial sponsorship of The Web Conference series of conferences
from IW3C2 to ACM’s Special Interest Group on Hypertext, Hypermedia and the Web (SIGWEB). Under the terms of the agreement, ACM SIGWEB will take responsibility for the conference starting with the 2022 edition of the conference in Lyon, France.
The Web Conference (formerly known as International World Wide Web Conference, abbreviated as WWW) is an annual international academic conference on the topic of the future direction of the World Wide Web. The conference aims to provide a forum in which key influencers, decision makers, technologists, businesses and standards bodies can both present their ongoing work, research, and opinions as well as receive feedback from some of the most knowledgeable people in the field. The conference also encompasses research about the impact of the World Wide Web on society and culture.
“SIGWEB is excited about the integration of the Web Conference into its series of scientific meetings”, said Dick Bulterman, SIGWEB-IW3C2 Liaison and SIGWEB Past Chair. “It compliments a number of our existing events and provides a unifying flagship event that can serve as an integrating platform for researchers and practitioners from our community. This is a mutually beneficial new partnership that will advance research, practice and policy in web technologies and their application for years to come.”
“As the world’s largest computing association, ACM sponsors more than 170 conferences, symposia, and workshops around the world,” added Dame Wendy Hall, IW3C2 Chair. “ACM’s experience managing conferences, especially conferences related to our mission, will provide a solid foundation upon which The Web Conference can continue to grow. This new agreement between ACM, IW3C2 and SIGWEB achieves our overarching goal of ensuring the continued success of The Web Conference.”
ACM and IW3C2 have agreed that all articles published by The Web Conference will remain open access after sponsorship is transferred to ACM SIGWEB.
