Web Technologies Research Group Profile
Nottingham, U.K.
The
Web Technologies Research (WebTech) Group was established in
2001 by Helen Ashman.
There are a number of projects currently running at WebTech, including
link-by-example, proxy-based linking, link modelling, hypermedia system
modelling, adaptive hypermedia in education, user modelling,
dimensional informatics and
bioinformatics visualisations, among others. The group's research has
received funding from EPSRC, BBSRC, the Leverhulme Trust, the EU Minerva
project, BT Labs, Amino Communications, the Royal Society, the University of
Nottingham, and the School of Computer Science and IT.
In August 2003, WebTech organised and hosted the successful and eminently enjoyable ACM Hypertext '03 conference. We are continuing our association with the conference series with Helen
Ashman acting as joint Programme Chair of
Hypertext '04 with Dave De Roure from Southampton, as well as being on the PC for
Hypertext '05.
However we have many other activities,
including being on the ACM SIGWEB
executive committee, joint programme chairing AH 2006 plus the editorial boards for
IEEE Internet Computing,
the Journal of Digital
Information and the New
Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia, plus a long-standing participation
in the WWW conference committees since programme-chairing WWW7, among others.
The group has around 15 members, including Helen Ashman and Tim
Brailsford as project leaders, with research staff including Adam
Moore, Craig Stewart, and numerous doctoral students and affilliate
members. For much of 2003, Ted Nelson was a Visiting Professor with
WebTech, and this collaboration is continuing with the
bioinformatics
visualisation
and
dimensional informatics projects.

group's publications page):
